For those who have been in Chengdu last week, the 1st edition of HaBaWaBa China will be impossible to forget. Shine Aquatics Club, the partner entrusted by Waterpolo Development to organize the competition, managed to put the “game of the ball in the water” at the center of an event that offered 6 days of excitement and fun.
At HaBaWaBa China - held in cooperation with the Water Polo Department of Chinese Rugby Association, Wenjiang Sports Bureau and the support of the local government - 87 games were played, involving 18 teams coming from China, Thailand and Malaysia. However also players of United States, Canada, Australia and Netherlands nationalities who live in China were among the 154 little waterpolo players who joined the event. The HaBaWaBa regulation was applied to the U14, U12 and U10 competitions: for Waterpolo Development it’s important to emphasize how the referees (led by former international Filippo Massimo Gomez) and the little waterpolo players were able to adapt to these rules with speed and intelligence. During the time off of the competition, the teams of HaBaWaBa China were able to enjoy the extraordinary experience of visiting the Sanctuary of Giant Pandas, the most important attraction in Chengdu.
Talking about to tournaments, the hosts Shine triumphed in U14 (ahead of Gasi Beijing and Shine Academy) and U12 (Flori Flora and Aquakids were on the podium) age group categories, while in U10 Aquakids from Thailand took the gold medal, ahead of Flori Flora and Shine.
All teams were awarded during the closing ceremony, which was enhanced by the performance provided by the little artists of the dance school of Chengdu. After the ceremony, kids kept having fun in the pool with inflatable games provided for them by the organization.
In this joyful atmosphere, HaBaWaBa China reaffirmed the validity of the HaBaWaBa project in spreading waterpolo and its values, laying the foundation for an expansion of the HaBaWaBa community in the East, a goal which the new HaBaWaBa South East Asia will also contribute to in the next future.
Waterpolo Development wish to congratulate and thank partners of Shine Aquatics Club - especially General Manager Lee Shuwei and Technical Director Daniele Ferri - for their work and invite teams and little waterpolo players to participate in upcoming HaBaWaBa International Circuit events around the world.
