Swiss RZO surrender only on shootouts to the Hungarians in a fantastic girls final. Rome beat Szolnok 16-9: the title returns to Italy after 3 years!
A Saturday to remember at the HaBaWaBa International Festival, the 2026 edition - the 18th for the “game of the ball in water” - closes with two finals that will go down in history for the emotions given to the public of Lignano Sabbiadoro: celebrating, in the end, are the Hungarian Oxigen Eger Ducks of Pilisvörösvár (a little town near Budapest) and Italian Roma Vis Nova. Here and above, the joy of Oxigen Eger Ducks. For the first time in the history of HaBaWaBa, a Swiss team reached a Gold final: RZO Aquatics, a club that brings together players from all the eastern cantons of Switzerland, accomplished a true feat in the semifinal by beating the Hungarians of Semmelweis OSC, who until then had dominated the competition.
In the final, the Swiss challenged Oxygen Eger, a Hungarian team led to Lignano by former champion Merci Stieber. The final was thrilling, the Hungarians escaped to +4, before RZO's comeback. After the 11-11 final whistle, shootouts: it took as many as 29 to decree Oxigen's victory (25-24 the result). In the previous match for 3rd place, Semmelweis OSC had instead beaten the Girls of Szentes, their compatriots.

In addition to the cup dedicated to the champions, Oxigen Eger also takes home the Fair Play Trophy, the prize awarded to the fairest teams in the two tournaments based on the scores given by the juries: the Hungarians thus score a double achieved only in 2021 by their compatriots of Dunaujvaros and YBL, proving to be true athletes, as well as champions. In the mixed team tournament, the Fair Play Trophy went to Italian Mestrina Nuoto.
VIS NOVA BETTER THAN SZOLNOKI. In the final of the U13 mixed team tournament, the duel between two great schools of international waterpolo, the Italian and the Hungarian, was renewed. Representing Italy was Roma Vis Nova, a capital club but with an operational base in Monterotondo, which has established itself in recent years as one of the best waterpolo youth systems of our movement. The “Giallorossi” reached the final by beating Onda Blu in the semifinal, a small club from the Bergamo municipality of Dalmine that over the years has created a high-level waterpolo school, also thanks to continuous participation in HaBaWaBa.

In the final, Vis Nova faced Szolnoki Dozsa, an important Hungarian club that in the semifinal prevailed in the Magyar derby against Szentes: the Italians immediately took the lead in a match full of phenomenal technical moves by the young water polo players, closing the game at 16-9.
SEE YOU IN 2027. After the U13 mixed team final, the HaBaWaBa International Festival 2026 will conclude with the closing ceremony, held in the square of the Bella Italia & EFA Village, during which all participants in this edition will be awarded.
Once again, HaBaWaBa proved to be a massive event, confirming itself as the greatest celebration that world youth water polo knows: between U9, U11, and U13, the "game of the ball in water" overall gathered in Lignano Sabbiadoro as many as 139 teams and about 1,500 young waterpolo players from 4 continents and 17 countries (Australia, China, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, Netherlands, Principality of Monaco, Singapore, Switzerland, and Hungary).
The appointment is for next summer: the dates for HaBaWaBa 2027 are already set, with the U9 and U11 tournaments scheduled from June 13 to 20, 2027, and the U13 tournaments (women's and mixed teams) from June 20 to 27, 2027.Oxigen Eger Ducks, U13 Girls HaBaWaBa champions 2026: Zoe Zavoczki, Adel Weiszt, Hanna Alaxai, Mira Simon, Bolda Konkoly, Lena Kiss, Angela Farkas, Anna Szofia Boros Lakatos, Marianna Saghi, Eva Marianna Vermes, Karolina Torma, Dina Beres, Bodza Tamas, Laura Marie Grandin, Alexandra Hirippi, Lili Emeh Chimdalu, Hanna Kalinics.
