2.1. Groups
The tournament will consist of 16 groups with 6 teams.
2.2. Tournament Phases
2.2.1. PHASE A
During this phase, all teams will match with other ones within their group, “round robin”, each team matches the other 5 teams of their group. Duration of this phase is 3 days.
Total number of Matches Phase A: 16*6*5/2=240 matches.
2.2.2. PHASE B
Once the matches within groups are finished (Phase A), the teams placed first remain in the same group, while the next 3 teams (placed 2°,3°,4°) are moved forming 16 new groups of 4 teams.
We run a TRASPOSITION of teams from a group to another based on their placing. This way, forming new groups containing different teams, each team will match 3 different teams from Phase A. The transposition will be based on this scheme.
At the Phase B start, the new groups composition will be the following:
Practically, each team will be moved to the successive group/groups with “steps” based on their position.
The number of “steps” is equal to its position in the group minus 1.
Example: For the group G1
- 1° place will not be moved
- 2° place will be moved to the group G2 (one “step”)
- 3° place will be moved to the group G3 (two “steps”)
- 4° place will be moved to the group G4 (three “steps”)
For the group G2
- 1° place will not be moved
- 2° place will be moved to the group G3 (one “step”)
- 3° place will be moved to the group G4 (two “steps”)
- 4° place will be moved to the group G5 (three “steps”)
…
Quando si arriva agli ultimi gruppi, le squadre vengono spostate nei primi.
For the group G14,
- 1° place will not be moved
- 2° place will be moved to the group G15 (one “step”)
- 3° place will be moved to the group G16 (two “steps”)
- 4° place will be moved to the group G1 (three “steps”)
And so on for each group.
After the transposition is done, all 16 groups will have a totally different teams combination. For each team the score from Phase A is maintained.
At this point all matches are played again “round robin”, each team matches other 3 within its new group.
In case of teams with equal score, la the classification will be resolved based on the following criteria, in order of priority:
- Best goal difference scoring
- More goals scoring.
- Best goal difference scoring in direct matches
Total number of matches during Phase B: 16*4*3/2=96 matches.
The 2 last placed of each group (the 5° and the 6° of each group during Phase A), form directly a Rock&Pop tournament with 32 participants.
