Among the speakers of HaBaWaBa International Festival today clinic is also Paul Metz, 51: he’s a Dutch coach who spent his life for waterpolo between Europe and New Zealand, where he first arrived in 1988. Metz was Netherland women’s national team and Great Britain men’s national team head coach and he is also the founder of SuperCoachOnline.nl, website for sharing training methods not only for waterpolo, but also for other sports.
“I was little more than 20 when I arrived in New Zealand – Metz said -. I started training and sharing with other coaches what I had learned in Europe. I started courses for coaches and little by little my exchange of informations became more and more intense: after a few years, I used to send explanations of drills and training programs via e-mail to hundred of people. At that point I wondered if I it was better to create a website. So I called a programmer and SuperCoachOnline was born”. It was 2003.
Since then, the website has grown exponentially and now contains more than 1.200 exercises and everyone of them is categorised in detail: within the “passes” category, for example, there are a lot of sub-categories in order to train that technical gesture in specific game situations (“Counterattack”, “man-up“, etc.). “Drills are associated with pictures and videos, all of those have a description of their execution and their purpose. I made the most of them, but you can add your exercises and share them with other users”. The platform allows you to schedule a training period into details, it may be a week or a full season, as well as to have an online confrontation with Metz aboute the choice of the exercises. The SuperCoachOnline system is universal, as it is currently used for other sports, such as rugby. To access it, you have to register and to pay an annual fee.
