Fair play is a core value of HaBaWaBa and this year the International Festival is pushing the kids to truly understand it through the ludic-educational workshop #EnjoyFairPlay. It is organized by Dr. Belinda Ciulli, psychotherapist of Hospital of Camposampiero, close to Padua, with a great experience in sports. Three volunteers is helping her: Silvia Trotto, Lara Delli Guanti and also Alessia Millo, four-time waterpolo champion of Italy with Plebiscito Padova: she studies Occupational Psychology and also she trains U13 waterpolo team of Plebiscito. After a gruelling season and with her university exams almost here, Alessia could have taken a break from waterpolo: instead she has come to HaBaWaBa to and play with the kids. “I’m here because I would like the children to get that it’s important to play by the rules – Alessia said -. A victory without respect is not a real victory“.
At the workshop kids watch a video about the principles of fair play: it was filmed by some of the Italian Setterosa players, such as captain Elisa Queirolo. Then at #EnjoyFairPlay kids are involved along with players of other teams in games that stimulate their creativity and their imagination: “We apply fair play through play – explains Dr. Ciulli -. We’re trying to make clear that fair play is not just an abstract concept, but a principle that should be applied every single day”.
Attending the workshop is not mandatory, but over 80% of the teams at HaBaWaBa International Festival came to play and learn.
